Pinko Commie Bastards
Here is a snippet from a great article written by Mona Charen back in January: “South Korea is a dynamo of economic activity. North Korea's people are literally starving. An estimated 2 million (of a total population of about 21 million) have starved to death within the past five years (according to the Population and Development Review, June 1, 2001).” In other words, it makes even France's economy look good by comparison.
Then she went deeper into the starvation issue, and North Korea's denial of the cause: “The regime -- as all communist regimes do when confronted with evidence of the horrific human toll their absurd pseudo-science called Marxism/Leninism has wrought -- cite floods and tidal waves as the reason for so much starvation. But the truth is that collectivized agriculture did to North Korea what it had previously done to the Soviet Union, China, Cambodia, Vietnam and many others. It made the proper allocation of resources for the agricultural sector impossible and led to widespread failure. It is unlikely any human idea has ever cost quite so many human lives as communism.”
Even someone as mentally deranged as Kim Jong-Il must be able to see what an utter failure communism has been for his own people. Only democracy and capitalism can help the people of North Korea, but Kim Jong-Il seeks to maintain his hold on power by furthering his nuclear weapons program... in complete violation of the agreement put together by that appeasing fool Jimmy Carter. The apparent attempts by North Korea to use its nuclear programs to extort us has prompted Colin Powell to say this recently: “You can't eat plutonium, you can't eat enriched uranium, and as long as you pursue those technologies, those who can help you grow the things that you can eat can't help you.”
North Korea's attempted nuclear blackmail reached new levels on Friday when a North Korean official admitted to having the nuclear weapons that everyone suspected existed: “We can't dismantle them. It's up to you whether we do a physical demonstration or transfer them.” Kim Jong-Il wants to use his nukes to squeeze us for economic aid. If that doesn't work, he would gladly sell them to any terrorist with enough blood money to spend. Given North Korea's penchant for violating such agreements, I don't see how paying their ransom would stop them from selling the weapons anyway. Of course the weaselateralists at the UN want us to handle this mess on our own. It took all sorts of arm-twisting just to get China semi-involved as a host for Friday's talks.
